What's New!

January 27, 2012

Well, here it is almost the end of January, and I still haven't finished the new website design. I have worked out a number of issues with the design approach that I want to use on my old blogsite which disappeared thanks to ehostsource.com. If you want to get an idea of where I am heading with things, take a look at http://www.csmonroe.net/Blog/

In the interium thanks to Danise, Dee and Jim Johnson we have coverage of the 2011 OTHG-Phoenix Christmas Party, which was very well attended and everyone had a really great time! Danise & Dee's Photos are Here! I would like to personally thank Danise for taking my camera so that I could enjoy the party for a change!

On January 22, we had our 1st Putt of the year down to Casa Grande for the annual Tucson/Phoenix hot rod picnic. Dee's write up and photo coverage by Dee, Danise and Jim Johnson can be found here!

Michelle and I made a trip to the valley on the weekend prior to Barrett - Jackson and were able to make it over to the Pavilions in Scottsdale for the weekly Saturday Night Cruise night. I had my little Fuji rangefinder camera with me and snapped a few photos of some of the cars that I liked. Sorry mostly MOPARs and a few FORDS.

We are planning on seeing everyone at the Progressive Dinner and then on to Yuma for Midnight at the Oasis, if I can find my '39 Ford that is buried under a thick coat of bondo/primer dust. Oh, speaking of shops, Terry Scott shared with us photos of his new shop bathroom. At first I thought I was seeing photos of a bath at one of the ranches outside of Reno NV, but he assured me that it really was in his shop.

December 8, 2011

I just finished our coverage of the 2011 Goodguys Southwest Nationals that was held at Westworld in Scottdale at the end lof last month. Thanks to Danise, Dee and Terry for the help with the photo coverage of this four day event. Click HERE for my write up of the event.

I have been having a lot of problems with the webhosting service that hosts our website, not so much with this particular site but with one of the other sites I manage. For all intents and purposes it looks like the company is going out of business or if not it should be. No one answers trouble tickets, emails or telephone calls or voice mails. My personal blog site has been down since October with a problem with the DNS (Domain Name Server) addressing. I have not been able to get any help resolving the problem so I am moving all of my business to another webhosting service which offers unlimited storage, bandwidth and has a full time customer service/tech support group that is in the USA and actually answers the phone when you call.

The downside of this is that since I cannot get anyone's attention with at the webhost, I can't transfer my domain names to the new host until they expire with the domain registar. So what this means is that I have had to come up with new domain names; in the case of my blog it is going from www.cmonroe.net to www.csmonroe.net. Since this website is still up on the old host, I am leaving it there while I put together our new site on www.othg-phoenix.org - our extention will go from net to org. I will probably pull the trigger on the move at the end of the year. When I do I will send out emails to everyone on my mail list.

November 13, 2011

I just uploaded coverage of last weekend's Follow the Raspberry Putt to the mine at Superior Arizona. Thanks to Dee for the write up and Betty, Danise, Dee, Fred, Larry and Terry for all of the photos!

November 2, 2011 - Afternoon Edition

Okay, since I sent out the email this morning I received a nice set of photos from Steve Besore from the Winslow Show. Steve and my home server were having issues which prevented him from getting the photos up sooner. I threw the server together from a bunch of left over parts that I had lying around, and for the most part it operates like it is made from junk parts.... arrrrgh!

Thanks to Judy, we now are all up to date on this year's Newsletters on line!

November 2, 2011

We are starting November off with a bang! The past few days has brought in a wealth of photos for our review!

... and some new photos of the progress on Ken & Carol Dubois '55 Chevy!

Well, it's November, and y'all know what that means! Goodguys Southwest Nationals at West World on the 17th-20th of November. Last year Michelle and I got hammered in a white out that lasted from the top of the rim on 260 to past Heber. Hopefully this year we wont have snow or rain, I am thinking we will be taking 60 though Globe/Miami down and up. Hope to see everyone there!

Be sure to get ahold of me if you want your membership photo updated! With all of the new members and old members with new cars, our on line roster is a bit out of date!

Club Store Order Form!

Dave Bennett has put together a really nice order form for the Club Store. It is in PDF format and can be downloaded and printed, then sent back to Dave.

Arizona License Plates

Here is a link to a great little website that has a lot of info on Arizona License Plates, the county codes found on the older plates are pretty interesting. I have '39 plates from Gila County and Mohave counties and the '56 plate that I found in California is from Maricopa. Anyway, lots of fun info and trivia can be found at http://www.azplates.com/

Goodtimes Remembered

1941 Willys AG/S at Lions 1966

When we were doing the shop tours at last fall's Goodguys Southwest Nationals I took a photo of a blood red '41 Willys coupe done in the classic gasser style. I was recently looking for an image that I could use to further practice my evolving Adobe Illustrator drawing skills on and decided that this would be a great canidate.

About the time that I was finishing up the artwork I ran across a photo of my old friend Rusty Delling checking the plugs from the blown 392 Chrysler in the HGM Racing Team '41 Willys Pick Up. Rusty drove the Willys as one of his qualifying cars for his competition license at Lions. Since I was looking for some door lettering for my artwork I decided to use what was on the pick up. To complete the poster drew the Lions sign which is pretty close to the 30' long signs that were on either side of the starting line, and added my version of a chrome Willys logo.

All in all it brought back a lot of fond memories of good friends and good times 'Back in the Day'.

Fahren Sie sicher!

Tschüß!

Event Calendar

Getting the car out and going to a different show, cruise night or other related activity is a lot of fun. Too often we get into ruts; which is a very bad thing if you own a street rod, hot rod or custom :-) Fortunately in Arizona we are blessed with a great climate and a lot car related activities going on in and around our state.

Several members have asked that we provide a calendar of coming events to help them in planning their future activity. Fortunately a lot of this has already been done for us by the kind folks at Cruisin' Arizona

The Club Roster

I was able to catch some of our new members and update a few of the older ones at Goodguys. We still have a lot of out of date photos! I hope we can schedule a picture day like we did a few years back to try and get everyone up to date...

If you need photos taken of you and your car please get in touch with me (conradm@citlink.net) and we will schedule a time and place!

The Virtual Garage

Several members who are/were in the process of building or modifying their cars have sent us photos and narratives of their work. I have received a lot of very favorable feedback from many of our readers so keep it up! If you or a club member that you know have a project starting or underway, please contact me and I will give you the instructions on how to access and use our internet drop box so you can share your work with everyone who logs into our site!

A word about photos...

If you have photos or an article or anything that you feel the club might be interested in please send it to my email address. When you send me photos it would help if you sent me copies of the original JPEG files from your camera. I need a minimum resolution of 720 x 480 pixels. No problem if your images are larger (almost all are), I can easily reduce them down to the size that I need. And, if it is not too much to ask, please turn off the time stamp feature on your camera that puts the date and time on each of the photos.

Also, please make sure that you let me know who took the photos so that I can give the proper accreditation for them! I have set up a drop box on the webserver so that you can easily get material to me without worrying about email size limits. If you wish to use it, contact me for details on how to log on and upload your files.

My Thanks ...

... to Carol Elliott, Dee Giuntoli, Larry Besore, Judy Nolte, Ken Du Bois, Terry Scott, Nick and Deb Bacon and Steve Besore for providing most of the content that you will see on this site!

Thanks in advance for your help and for your feedback! Let me know what you find wrong or don't like! email your feedback or photos etc. to conradm@citlink.net
